Crossfields Europa was founded by Charlotte von Bülow in 2017 as a subsidiary company within the Crossfields Institute Group, UK. What follows is an abstract of our story so far ...
The journey began in 2004 when Charlotte decided to address the rapidly growing need for creative, bespoke quality assurance and accreditation solutions for alternative education providers. Charlotte worked as an academic administrator and quality assurance officer in the UK when she initiated the complex process of creating a state recognised awarding organisation in the UK. The initiative became an international action research project and a team of dedicated co-visionaries gathered to support the work. Crossfields Institute was born in 2008 as a registered UK company and charity.
The interest in the work of Crossfields Institute grew and the organisation soon diversified to encompass three departments: 1) qualification development and awarding, 2) education and research and 3) consulting and coaching. As one of the few recognised awarding organisations specialising in innovative, integrative approaches to education and development, the work attracted an international network of educators, researchers and organisational change agents.
Over the years, Crossfields Institute and its centres developed a large number of qualifications and programmes and the work continues today. Between 2009 and 2022, the institute also offered a range of higher education programmes in partnership with universities and collaborators, including masters programmes and postgraduate diplomas.
As part of a vibrant research community, Crossfields Institute hosted a series of succesful research conferences with partner-universities internationally (2009-2018), organised by Fergus Anderson and in close collaboration with colleagues from Alanus University.
In 2015, Crossfields Institute was appointed the awarding organisation in a major Erasmus+ funded development project that put the charity on the map in the UK, Scandinavia and Finland.
It was during this time that Crossfields Europa was conceived and in 2017, the company was officially registered and opened in Denmark. The first achievements were to secure Ministerial approval in Denmark for a new bespoke qualifying teacher education programme specifically designed for Steiner Waldorf Upper School (college) teachers and to form a partnership with University of Southern Denmark. Crossfields Europa designed and offered this qualification to a large number of teachers from the UK, Scandinavia and Finland until 2022.

Crossfields Europa and Crossfields Institute separated in 2023 but continues to share vision, values and the good work. Today, Crossfields Europa is run by the core team as an activity of Luna Associated ApS.

We take an action research approach to our work - whether we are coaching, teaching, facilitating or designing processes, the journey begins with a question: What do you want to change, develop or achieve?
Then, we co-create a pathway with you that connects you and your collaborators with your destination.
Our values underpin each and every step we take together:
We value and promote deeper experiential learning - this is enabled through action and reflection and it is achieved by engaging with real-world practice.
We value responsiveness to context - rich learning opportunities surround each and every one of us, in our places of work, our homes, our communities and our local environments. When we begin to understand the choreography of events, and the powerful narratives that inform our lives, then we can develop individual and collective agency and make significant contributions towards a better world.
We value and build our unique approach to a given task on best practice from recent developments in organisation studies and educational research. We are in a constant exchange of knowledge and skills with our networks and partners. Working with us means that you benefit from a transdisciplinary community of wise practitioners.
In this film, the Crossfields Institute team (2019) talks about the philosophy and the work.

Right now, we are actively involved in supporting mental health. We are working in partnership with the Danish Association of Psychotherapists (DPFO). Crossfields Europa is the appointed quality assurance and certification body for all member-organisations under the DPFO. Additionally, we are leading on the development of a research culture for all psychotherapy students in Denmark and we are providing a suite of research modules that are also available to members of the European Association of Psychotherapists.
